Non-paper packaging manufacturers that serve the food, beverage and pharmaceutical businesses are doing well during the COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus pandemic has put health, safety and wellbeing into sharp focus for manufacturers. Shelf life, protection from contaminants and sustainability, make rigid, non-porous containers more desirable. Transparency and consumer education through labeling and printed packaging is also of high importance to consumers.

Having best practices in place for food safety is a high priority at Independent Can Company. For this reason, we began to seek certification with the Safe Quality Food Institute and participate in their extensive audits of our facilities that produce food-contact packaging.

We are pleased to announce that in 2020 our Vandalia, Ohio, Ft. Madison, Iowa and Belcamp, Maryland plants have successfully passed our SQFI audits with the highest scores to date. This month our Belcamp facility, the largest and most complex operation, scored 96% after 2-1/2 days of auditing. In the spring of this year our Vandalia facility scored 99% followed by Iowa at 98%.
