What’s New
April 2010
The world continues to change rapidly. Each day we must learn to manage the events that affect our lives: The airlines are just restarting their businesses in Europe after the volcano shut down the industry and we have had earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. What is next?
With all of the distractions we must stay focused on our markets and strive to be the best we can be. Our Mission Statement is:
To Be The Best – Not The Biggest
This statement helps guide all of our company’s actions on a daily basis.
What is going on?
Now that we have the results of the first quarter the markets that we serve have had a significant trend toward better times. Almost all of the markets we serve are up double digits over 2009. Inventories are low and new projects are on the table for those that have prepared and invested.
Stock Designs: The activity on the stock tins has been strong this spring, which will lead to a strong fall gift giving time of the year. If you need samples or pictures for your literature please call your Sales Representative.
Major Projects: The large food companies are again active and looking for unique packaging. We have committed to a new irregular shape tin for a large confectionary project. This new tool will be the first new tool we have built for the food/gift markets since the economic meltdown. We cannot identify the shape until it is introduced by our customer, although the new tool will be available to all of our customers.
We have just entered into two multiyear contracts to develop capacity and capability for mass merchant items which are very exciting. The projects will start up in the fall of 2010.
Lithography: In the past 7 months we have almost entirely redesigned our printing capability. The addition of the 4 color Metalstar line and the Trail U V coater behind the 6 color Metalstar has effectively doubled our capacity.
The 4 color line has been running around the clock since October and the new Trail UV is now in full production.
Why is this important to you?
Ø Lead time: The Metalstar presses set up and get to first good sheet faster than any other press system that we are aware of, in the world.
Ø Speed of printing: Sheets per hour are faster than any of the traditional metal printing system.
Ø Quality of print: We print with a line screen of 250 verses most metal decorators are currently printing with either 133 or 150 line screen, and we also use a concentric dot verses a traditional solid dot. The result is that we have the sharpest print quality in the metal printing industry today.
Ø Pre Press: We have a fully digital art department allowing fast turnaround on proofs and plate making.
We are really excited about the future of the specialty tin business and are investing at a high level to make sure that we are your best source for tin packaging. Thank you to all of our customers; we assure you that we remain committed to being your best supplier. To those that have not bought from us or only now have a project, please challenge us to bring to you an exciting new package.
Sincerely,
Rick Huether
